If you hear hysterical laughter...

It's probably because of this ST webcomic book. It is a parody of children's books which is most assuredly NOT for kids, omg. NSFW, slashy, hilarious crack: consider yourself warned.

Why fandom is good, by Ani, age *mumble*.

So, thanks to recent recs on my flist (*bows to [info]lydia_petze and certain communities*), I started reading ST:Reboot fic. It seems to have had an effect, because today I decided -- having been a fan of various incarnations of the franchise since like, 1975 -- to do something I rarely ever do: I went to a matinee, alone. Figured I should actually, you know, see the movie.

OMG it was AWESOME. I loved it.

spoiiiiilllleeerrrrs )

Anyway. In short: MORE PLEASE. Will watch again soonish if possible.

Meantime, there is fic. Oh baby, is there ever. Mmm. Shiny new fandom with stuff I grok already inside, whee! See, this is why canon authors should embrace fan fic: free promotion! Recruiting more fans who will go out and (literally) buy into the franchise! What's not to like? If you've made something good that people love, they will (for the most part) take care of it, play with it, and make it grow. Possibly in ways you might not like, sure, but... your world remains its own world. Fic writers (artists, vidders) just take the characters/world on different journeys, in different directions... alternate timelines... :D

Here we go again, folks. Entirely new list of sale items behind the cuts! (Note that anything in the previous post that doesn't have a line through it has not yet been sold.) Check it out!

Books! )

Comics! )

And, finally, I have about 150 Unlimited/Revised Magic: The Gathering cards. They've been stored in a stack for years, and some of them have a slight amount of wear on the back. They're not mint, they're not rare, but IIRC there's two playable decks in there, and the poor things are lonely. Please give them a home. Asking $30 o.b.o.

Sale post!

If you haven't heard about what's happening at Amazon.com (i.e. stripping the sales rankings from queer -- and BDSM, and poly, and other "adult" -- books), you'd best check this out.

*rageragerage*

Anyone know if Amazon.ca is doing the same? If so, I'm taking my wish list down and not buying there anymore. This is inexcusable, IMO.

ETA: Yes, some items on Amazon.ca have been affected. Right then. Screw you, Amazon. *removes wish list*

ETA2: And, for the record, what my profile now says:

You'll notice my (6 page, 150-item long) wish list has been entirely deleted (by me). Until Amazon stops deleting sales rankings from queer-positive and sex-positive books (Google "Amazon rank" for more info), I refuse to give them my business. I recommend shopping at your local brick-and-mortar queer-positive bookstore instead. E-mail me if you want suggestions as to where and what to buy. But please don't buy me or my family anything from here until Amazon ends censorship.

Um, no.

Meet the new Dora -- all tweened up.

It isn't enough that they dumbed her down and brought in a bolder (obnoxious) male character in the form of Diego. It isn't enough that she's been girlified (it's all about clothes, princesses, babies, and so on). No, now they have to turn her into a Bratz doll. Pathetic.

The Edge loves The Waterboys. *loves Edge*

Man, what a colossal f-up tonight's live broadcast is turning out to be. Barely able to hear the lads, for one thing, and Shirley Manson not getting any kind of input as to whether or not they were actually broadcasting... Who knew that The Edge (the radio station) would be the better option than online... but not by much. *hands*

I just hope that decent recordings show up online, soon, so that I can listen to the whole thing without yelling "FARGH!" every two minutes. :P

Uh. I think I missed the memo...

I'm going to see Leonard Cohen the week after my birthday! I got a floor ticket! WHEE!!!!!!!

As I said earlier, this is a birthday present to myself, and actually, given how verklempt I am already, it's probably for the best that I'm going alone. ;) I think it's reasonable to say I'm a lifelong fan, since my middle name is a result of my mum's love of a certain song by the great man. And if mum were still here, I'd take her with me, esp. since it's so close to Mother's Day... but come to think of it, I'll be taking her with me anyway. :)

For those who, like me, were frustrated by this year's Oscar memorial montage, you can see it properly here.

Via this Toronto Star article, there is now a website offering a free (probably supported by Google ads) e-mail alert service that notifies you the day before a weather-related health condition is likely to be aggravated by changes in the weather. There's also an app for FB.

I figure it's worth a try.

Meet my new musical heroes.

My guitar teacher finds the craziest stuff. One of many reasons I like the guy, of course. Herewith, the kazookeylele!

You've never heard The Final Countdown like this before.

Cover of The Darkness' I Believe In A Thing Called Love.

There's more. It's just... sublime, in a ridiculous way. Well done, lads.

Abrupt shift in gears.

After getting angry about stuff seen on the internet, it's always good to find something that cheers me up. Like Jude Law as a trans model.

Rage also features Dame Judi, Eddie Izzard, and John Leguizamo.

Sold!

Check out Jacob Moon's acoustic cover of Subdivisions -- from the roof of the Staircase Theatre in Hamilton. He's using a JamMan, hence the one-man band effect (of which I'm terribly fond/envious). Nifty cover, great voice.

Democracy has come to the U.S.A.

So nice to laugh and feel hope at the inauguration of a U.S. president. Michelle's totally going to give him the gears about tripping over the oath -- she was trying not to crack up, there. (ETA: Though it sounds like he was the one who had it right, it was the Chief Justice who fumbled. Heh.) Then Malia telling him it was a good speech -- oh, my heart. Rick Warren wasn't a dick, interestingly enough; I was looking to see if anyone turned their back on him, but no. Rev. Lowery was a hoot, Aretha was classically Aretha (the hat, whoa), Elizabeth Alexander was interesting, Simple Gifts was lovely.

Dear President Obama:

I may be up here in Canada, but you have my plowshare. Congratulations, sir.

Sail on,
--Ani

Here, have some Democracy, courtesy of Leonard Cohen.
